Which is great if you like that font. But I have to word process in Times New Roman. Here lies my problem. Every time I add a footnote (which i do so every few lines) the default font no matter how many times you go an change it in the font box.changes that once, but when you add a new footnote, it always goes back to Helvetica. I'm pasting things in from a PDF document and they come out in too small a font I need to change. I can avoid the problem by pasting into the middle of some already exist text, but it seems like I should be able to change a piece. Same thing would by useful for footnotes. I find they're too small for my old-goat eyes and like to increase them. Press Ctrl+Shift+S to open the Apply Styles dialog. Type Footnote Text in the box and click the Modify button. In the Modify Style dialog, change the font size in the middle of the dialog, make sure the font name is Times New Roman, and click the 'New documents based on this template' option at the bottom; then click OK. The default font for body text in Apple’s Pages word processing app is 11-point Helvetica Neue, but you can easily change it to something more interesting through the Format panel that’s usually.
The default Footnote text style in the blank Word processing template is single spaced 10 pt. Helvetica. If that isn't the default in the template you are working from, you could import that style into your document and apply it to the footnotes.

I am guessing, though, since that's the only default footnote spacing that I've encountered, that you might be talking about the spacing between notes, rather than the line spacing. You can set that to 0 pts. in the Document pane of the inspector.
